Samsung Unveils New NAND Memory Chip for Smartphones; Inaugurates Quality Assurance Lab in Tianjin
May 07, 2010
Korean Samsung announced on May 6 that the company has developed an 8 Gigabit (Gb) OneNAND memory chip, catering to the need for more data storage in Smartphones, according to a press release by Samsung on May 6. Based on the SLC (Single Level Cell) design and 30nm process technology, the OneNAND chip features NOR flash interface, which allows a data read speed of 70 megabytes per second, more than four times the speed of conventional NAND at 17 megabytes per second, according to the same source. Samsung's OneNAND memory chip, which is currently sampling, is slated for mass production by the end of May, 2010.

On the same date, Samsung set up a new quality assurance testing laboratory within its TV production facility based in Tianjin, China, with an aim to implement quality control for Samsung products manufactured in China to ensure they meet the international quality and safety standards, the Yonhap News reported on May 6. The new testing laboratory will also help expedite the quality assurance testing process for Samsung products manufactured in China, which used to be sent back to Korea for testing.
